Commitment: The new residents are required to commit to residing in the village for a minimum of ten years.

Residency Status: Candidates must have a Swiss C permit, which reflects permanent residency status.

Result of this program

This financial incentive program has been effective and gave very positive result. Albinen had gained 17 new families, nearly 50 new residents, including some children by the year of 2023. This program has revitalized the community, with local services reopening and a renewed sense of optimism among long-term residents.

The project also created economic activity, with the municipality paying incentive payments of CHF 710,000 (approximately €660,000) that have in turn stimulated investments of over CHF 6.6 million (approximately €6.1 million) in the local housing market.

Overcoming Difficulties

Although this incentive program was successful but still it faced lot of challenges and difficulties. Following international media reports, Albinen was swamped with requests from prospective residents from all over the world—up to 100 daily, reportedly. Many of the applicants, however, were not qualified for the stringent eligibility requirements, generating an enormous administrative burden on the village council. Authorities have since called for an appreciation and respect of the program’s precise requirements before applying.
